There’s a lot of noise out there – especially in the Internet Marketing space.
Having a blog is nothing special. The novelty wore out 7-8 years ago.
Still, some people are consistently putting out resourceful and well-written content.
I keep up with a lot of blogs myself – about 60-70 of them. That doesn’t mean I read every post, but I subscribe, scan and read what looks worthy.
A handful of these blogs stand out. They’ve got the “magic” happening – that combination of style, voice, insight and timeliness that keeps us coming back.
1) Conversation Marketing
Ian Lurie of Portent Interactive has been blogging at ConversationMarketing.com for a while now. The archives go back to 2003 – yikes! In 2003 I was still in college entertaining the idea that I’d be a fiction writer.
Ian has a way of telling it like it is without taking himself too seriously – while providing actionable information based on actual experience. He’s been through the trenches in Internet Marketing. I’d take his advice to the bank.

2) Search Engine People
I admit I’m a new reader to Search Engine People, but I’ve been impressed with every. single. post. Ruud Hein’s interviews with Internet Marketing gurus are top notch – his questions are well-prepared and get right at the meat of things.
They bring in a lot of great guest posters and create stellar content on a regular basis. Bottom line: subscribe, read often.

3) User Effect
I first encountered Dr. Pete at SEOmoz – the community I credit with first turning me on to SEO and being open enough to let a n00b get involved without flaming him too much.
Pete’s writing style is conversational, and he often laces his posts with laugh-out-loud humor. Combine that with the fact that this guy knows usability, and this blog is a must read in my opinion.

4) Seer Interactive
Wil Reynold’s is a smart dude. He’s got a smart team. And they share lots of actionable information.
I’m a relatively new reader to the Seer Interactive blog, but I’ve been consistently impressed with the content they’re pumping out on a regular basis – always actionable, detailed and fluff-free.

5) Outspoken Media
Rae Hoffman (aka Sugarrae), Rhea Drysdale and Lisa Barone started Outspoken Media in 2008. Since then they’ve been consistently cranking out great, in-your-face content that demands action and takes no prisoners.
I’m not sure how Lisa Barone does it, frankly – not only does she write 2-3 kick-ass posts per week at Outspoken Media, but she just landed a gig writing 3 times per week at the SmallBizTrends.com blog (which has almost 100,000 subscribers). Give this girl her propers.

Thanks for including us in your list Mike! I’m really glad you like the post quality at SEP. Perhaps you’ll contribute a post there soon too?
Hey Mike,
Wow, thanks so much for the mention. Totally flattered to be up with some really great blogs considering we’re only a few months old. Thanks dude. And I promise to stay away from your side of the ride while I’m driving around Long Island. ;)
@Jeff My pleasure. You guys set one hell of an example – keep it up! I’d be psyched to contribute.
@Lisa How could I not include the Outspoken blog? You guys went straight to the top of my “must read” list within the first week. Your post on using an editorial calendar for blogging actually spurred me to set one for this blog – so thank you!
Luckily I ran my errands and made it back to the office safe and sound. I’ll stay here for a few days. ;)
I guess I’d better hurry up and thank you for the mention before you wise up and realize what a horrible, horrible mistake you’ve made ;) I’m constantly amazed that people actually listen to me.
@Dr. Pete Eh, I can always just delete your comment too.
Seriously man you know your stuff is good. Cut the crap. ;)
Hey there, thank you so much for the shout out. Its great to know that we’re mentioned along with the other heavyweights up there, we try pretty hard to write consistently and write good stuff, its great to see we’ve written some good things lately, thanks for the feedback!
@Wil No worries – I’m just calling it like I see it.
