On the other, a lot of clients make that incredibly frustrating - you realize their thinking is just backwards and to get them in the right place will take more than you're capable of (and, frankly, a lot more than you'll be paid for).In my case, I definitely wouldn't rule out the agency world entirely, but I wouldn't go back unless I found a gig I really liked with good people and the right culture. If I had to choose between scrubbing toilets and going back to one of my old agency jobs at this point it would be a pretty tough call. There may be more honor in scrubbing toilets. Thanks!

One thing I liked about working solo was being able to talk to clients about their marketing tactics - not just the design of their logo or stationery. Once I started at the agency, I found that I rarely spoke directly to clients and had nothing to do with marketing, but in the last two years I've been included in client meetings and speaking more with clients.
